Alan Leventhal’s PowerPoint presentation will cover the history of the Muwekma Ohlone Tribe of the San Francisco Bay and San Jose area.  This presentation discusses the 10,000 year heritage of the ancestral Ohlone cultures, their contact with the Hispanic Empire, the adverse impacts of missionization, the destruction of Native California societies and devastation of California ecological systems, the American colonial period during the 19th century, the Federal Recognition of many California Tribes as the result of the discovery of the 18 unratified treaties of 1851-1852, and the survival strategies deployed by tribal communities during the 20th century.
